Mapping Affective Spaces

A collaboration with Rui Nunes for Death and Spring. An experimental sound map of the Grand Union Path, in London. The project explores the concept of “soundscape”, the creation of a sonic environment of a specific locale and its character.

The outcome is a sound piece generated through the attribution of a different instrument to each of the following categories:

1. Colors – Piano.
A different tone has been assigned to each color. This relationship follows a pre-existing musical sonochromatic scale (relating the visible spectrum of light and sound frequency Hz).

2. Buildings – Cymbals.
Pointing the beginning and the end of each building.

3. Environment – Flutes.
A continuous sound that reaches higher tones when trees are taller and the opposite when surrounded by the darkness of canal tunnels.
