Digital Literacy

Digital Literacy explores the nature of analog and digital reading platforms. In this project, an algorithm analyses the word frequency of literary works. Using its output data, the program generates both synopsis and book cover. Linking digital concepts of keyword generation and hypertext to the classic physical book format.

The project challenges the subjectivity of the book cover design creative process.

The covers’ graphics all start at the centre of a square, with a single dot. A line is created in a random direction with a size proportional to the number of times the word is repeated in the book. From the most frequent to the least used ones.

Black lines represent names, verbs, and adjectives. On the back cover, the reader will find the Top 100 words in each book, acting as the synopsis.
